I’d like to ask you to join me for the oddest reading event of my career. Oxfam are holding a twenty-four hour readathon for their Bookfest. It’s on Monday, the 5th of July, and I’m reading at 10:30pm. Drinks before are recommended. It’s at the Oxfam flagship bookstore at 91 Marylebone High Street W1D 4RB.

I spent the bank holiday weekend with a Texan killer from the fifties. After watching the intensely claustrophobic trailers for Michael Winterbottom’s adaptation of Jim Thompson’s The Killer Inside Me I ran to Foyles to read the book.
The novel slips inside the head of small town Sherriff and calculating killer, Lou Ford. […]

I’m doing another short story reading at The Gallery Space in Foyles this Friday. I’m hoping this time the delivery will live up to the writing.
I’ve chosen to read a much shorter story than before - under seven hundred words. It’s called Things I’m ashamed of #1.
    You’re welcome to come.

The Bank of England are teaching their female staff how to walk the thin line between dressing for success and not looking like a sex worker. A recent memo, posted on Jezebel tells female employees, “always wear a heel of some sort — maximum 2 inches; always wear some sort of makeup — even if […]

I was heading home a few days ago, I’d just gotten off the bus and had turned my headphones up as loud as they would go for the walk home. I was in a great mood and the song felt amazing. As I reached the corner, I saw Boots was open and knew I needed […]

When I first moved to London the rhythmic singing and clanging of bells that could only be the Hare Krishnas always made me smile. Like an establishing shot in any film about a major city, the presence of the Krishnas and their little Madonna style headsets were a sign the place was alive.
    Recently, all is […]
