I’ve been reading The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. It’s about as far away from my genre of writing as possible, yet I’ve learnt so much from the writing.

I came across the novel after reading an extract in an American short story collection. While the book was an American bestseller in the late eighties, I hadn’t heard of it. It seems no matter how much I read, there’s always something brilliant that I’m missing. I’ve got to get more recommendations.
