London

I walked a friend to the edges of St James park this morning, on his way to a meeting. While we took the ten minute trip from my office up through Victoria Street, the back roads were filled with bright orange police cars, whizzing past in groups of two or three.

We said goodbye at the top of Victoria Street and I quickly circled back to my office. I found out shortly afterwards that Vauxhall tube had been closed and the Tesco delivery man had been delayed because of a suspect package outside our local store.

Like the Haymarket bomb a few days before, this reminder was close enough for me to spend a few minutes thinking about my safety. I came to the conclusion that no matter how seriously we take these acts of terrorism, we still need to look both ways when crossing the road, chew lunch properly and avoiding common and garden crazies. That’s just life. That’s just London.

This proved to be true as I found when I returned to my desk, that a man had stabbed a police officer in Victoria Street then ran off, minutes after I left the scene.
