Green, Green Grass

I’ve got a bit of a soulless day job working in PR where a fair amount of my time is focused on pushing stories about my company into the press and coming up with bullshit ideas to get them attention.

I’m the first to admit PR stunts can often be tacky, cheap or just seem false. But every now and then, there’s a stunt that grabs everyone’s attention and hit’s the right spot.

Last night, while out having a walk after dinner, I got to see the best bit of PR this year. Trafalgar square has been covered in over 21,000 square feet of fresh, luscious grass as part of a Visit London’s Villages campaign, which tries to entice us dirty-lunged Londoner’s into more rural areas.

The brains behind this stunt are the Cake Group. You’ve probably not heard of them, but you will have heard of their clients. Over the years they’ve grabbed your attention on behalf of Evian, Nintendo, Penguin and king of snacks, Pot Noodle.

If you can’t get down to Trafalgar Square this afternoon, have a look at this youtube video.
